On 19 January, the Otto von Habsburg Foundation welcomed colleagues from the Historical Archives of the Hungarian State Security Services (Állambiztonsági Szolgálatok Történeti Levéltára, ÁBTL), which has operated as a specialised public archive since 2003 as the legal successor to the Historical Office established in 1997.
The delegation, led by Deputy Director General Eszter Tóth, was received by Gergely Prőhle and Gergely Fejérdy. Following an introduction to the Foundation’s activities and the life and heritage of its namesake, the guests were given an overview of selected items from the collection, including correspondence, diaries and personal artefacts preserved by the Foundation.
The subsequent professional exchange provided an opportunity for historians and archivists to share experiences and to discuss potential avenues for future cooperation. A particular highlight of the visit was the unexpected rediscovery of a personal correspondence between Otto von Habsburg and one of the visiting archivists, Róbert Ehrenberger.
At the conclusion of their visit, Director Gergely Prőhle emphasised the Foundation’s commitment to maintaining and further developing its professional relationship with the institution.
