Bibó István és Habsburg Ottó

Otto von Habsburg and István Bibó are among the most prominent thinkers of the 20th century in European and Hungarian history, who, in addition to their theoretical work, have left a significant legacy as public figures. Although they followed very different paths, their work has in common a profound reflection on the most crucial social and political contexts and dilemmas, with a particular emphasis on the future of Europe and the problems of cooperation and development prospects for the peoples of Central Europe. István Bibó’s historically and politically grounded explorations of European social development and Otto von Habsburg’s reflections on the key issues of European integration still carry relevant messages today and serve as an excellent point of reference for understanding the history and the present of the continent and the narrower Central European region.

The event, organised by the Otto von Habsburg Foundation and the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Science of the Széchenyi István University, aims to present the vision of Europe of two politicians and thinkers with very different backgrounds and experiences, the thematic parallels of their work and reflections, and the relevance of the ideas and concepts they conveyed, thus giving new impulses to the discussion on Central European cooperation and European integration.
