The event focuses on two remarkable anniversaries: the 115th anniversary of the marriage of our namesake’s parents, Emperor Charles and Empress Zita, and the 75th anniversary of the wedding of Otto von Habsburg and Archduchess Regina. Through an exhibition featuring photographs, film footage, and unique memorabilia from our collection, as well as a series of thematic lectures, visitors will have the opportunity to revisit two iconic dynastic weddings of the twentieth century.
Throughout our programs, we strive to make history an experience that can be enjoyed through all the senses: not only to see and hear, but also to savour. Visitors can enjoy an exhibition, film screenings, and children’s activities throughout the evening. Renowned experts will guide audiences through the festive traditions of the era.
Fashion historian Judit Anna Szatmári, Head of the Textile Collection at the Kiscelli Museum, will present the distinctive features of court and ecclesiastical ceremonial traditions, the symbolism of garments and jewelry, and the customs associated with wedding ceremonies of the period.
Photographer Péter Korniss and film historian Márton Kurutz will evoke the atmosphere of these historic ceremonies through surviving photographs and film recordings.
In keeping with this year’s Night of Museums theme, “Stories Preserved in Flavours,” we are also preparing a culinary experience. With the participation of gastronomic writer and television presenter Zsófia Mautner, visitors will be offered a taste of the world of festive banquets: they will be able to sample selected dishes from the original wedding menu and enjoy Freixenet sparkling wine, one of Otto von Habsburg’s favourite drinks.
Participation is free of charge, but registration is required for individual programs.
We warmly welcome all interested visitors!
