In recent years, interest in the Foundation’s activities and collections has grown most gratifyingly. A vivid testimony to this development was, following previous guests, the visit, on 12 September, of another distinguished German delegation, this time arriving from Dresden.

We had the honour of welcoming the Circle of Friends of the Grünes Gewölbe, the world-renowned treasury museum of the Dresden State Art Collections, led by Director Marius Winzeler. Their visit was of particular significance, as our Foundation’s namesake was bound to Saxony by family ties: his grandmother, Maria Josepha (1867–1944), was the daughter of King George I of Saxony.

The participants were guided through the highlights of our collection by Director Gergely Prőhle and archivist Eszter Fábry. Their program further included the opportunity to view Martin Luther’s Testament, preserved in the Archives of the Lutheran Central Collection, as well as a tour of the impressive Podmaniczky–Degenfeld Library.

The culmination of the day was a lecture delivered by Director Prőhle in the Esterházy Péter and Gitta Library, where he recalled the circumstances of the Foundation’s establishment and its most significant achievements to date, before engaging in a lively exchange with the distinguished guests.
