Pilgrimage Sites in the Turmoil of History
The Otto von Habsburg Foundation cordially invites you to a commemoration event on the 12th anniversary of the death of its namesake.
Date: 2 July 2023, Sunday
Venue: Pannonhalma Archabbey (Pannonhalma, Várkerület 1.)
Registration: HERE
After the commemorative Mass, the discussion will focus on the history of the Pilgrim Hospice in Jerusalem, founded in 1863 by Emperor Franz Joseph. The Austrian Pilgrim Hospice to the Holy Family in Jerusalem (Österreichischen Pilger-Hospiz zur Heiligen Familie in Jerusalem), located on the Via Dolorosa, is not only a place of hospitality for pilgrims to the Holy Land, but also a cultural and educational institution promoting intercultural dialogue between Christian, Jewish and Islamic communities through lectures, exhibitions, publications and concerts. The “chronicle” of the house also reflects the history of the region and the conflicts in the Middle East. Otto and Regina von Habsburg visited Jerusalem in 1955 as part of their journey to the Middle East, and in 1990 on the occasion of the inauguration of our namesake as honorary doctor. In view of the historical connection, our Foundation is planning to organise various programmes in the hospice during the autumn. At our commemoration, Konrád Dejcsics OSB, Cultural Director, will also present the plans for the Otto von Habsburg memorial site in the garden of the Archabbey. The event will conclude with a lunch for our guests.
