Our Foundation commemorates Aristides de Sousa Mendes, who passed away seventy years ago on 3 April 1954. The Portuguese diplomat, as his country’s Consul General in Bordeaux, was instrumental in 1940 in helping to escape Otto von Habsburg and his family, who were accused of treason and persecuted by Nazi Germany.
On 6 December 2022, the Embassy of Hungary in Lisbon, in cooperation with the Portuguese Catholic University in Porto, organized a conference on the occasion of the centenary of the death of Blessed Charles IV, where the exhibition ‘Life and Memory’, compiled by the Otto von Habsburg Foundation, was presented.
An exhibition organised in collaboration between the Otto von Habsburg Foundation and the Regional Archive and Public Library of Madeira (Arquivo Regional e Biblioteca Pública da Madeira) opened in Funchal on 27 June 2022.
