The conference, organised jointly by the Otto von Habsburg Foundation and the Institute of Strategic Studies of the University of Public Service, commemorated the signing of the Élysée Treaty, a fateful event in the life of our continent, in the Széchenyi Hall of the Ludovika.
Otto von Habsburg has analysed the lessons of the historic presidential elections 20 years ago in a number of articles. His reflections still help us to understand French domestic politics today, especially with regard to the 2022 elections.
Fifty years ago, on Monday, November 9, 1970, Charles de Gaulle, the French President, died at his home in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises. The news of his death shook many of his admirers, including Otto von Habsburg, who was just in Paris at the invitation of President Georges Pompidou.
