A new book commemorating the last Hungarian ruler has been published, featuring a foreword by Charles’s grandson, Ambassador Georg von Habsburg, member of our Foundation’s Board of Trustees, as well as a study by our Deputy Director, Gergely Fejérdy. Issued by Bethlen Gábor Alapkezelő Zrt., the richly illustrated work is the seventh volume in a series presenting prominent figures of Hungarian history. It also contains numerous photographs from our Foundation’s photo archive, prepared for publication by our colleague Szilveszter Dékány.
The collection brings together studies by several distinguished historians with expertise in the field – Iván Bertényi Jr., Lothar Höbelt, Dávid Ligeti, Ferenc Maczó, and Sándor Szakály. Their contributions approach the career of the last Hungarian ruler from different perspectives, complementing and further expanding the themes explored in our 2022 publication Good Will and Misfortune.
Alongside its distribution in print to public and higher education institutions, a free online edition will soon become available. Through this volume, we hope to contribute to making better known the life and legacy of our namesake’s father, whose destiny was inseparably linked to Hungarian history.
